Dr. LaNail R. Plummer Ed.D., LPC (DC), LCPC (MD), ACS, NCC, BC-TMH As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC-MD), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-DC), a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and Board-Certified TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) counselor, Dr. LaNail R. Plummer is committed to improving the lifestyle of many through the aspects of mental health and character development. Through the values of integrity and awareness, Dr. Plummer believes that emotional, spiritual and cultural healing is attainable for all. As the CEO of Onyx Therapy Group, Dr. Plummer has created and leads a company whose mission is centered on addressing mental health issues, disparities, and inequalities in communities, organizations, and individuals in need. She leads her team of counselors, consultants, and specialists with a focus on development, compassion and understanding while requiring their attainment towards high standards of excellence that is incorporated in research, education, training, personal knowledge, and intuition. She strives towards creating a familial experience amongst her team, that can be modeled and creates a parallel process with all clients and consumers of Onyx Therapy Group. ​ Dr. Plummer, and her team of counselors, specialize in Child Centered Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. As a graduate of Howard University & Marymount University, Dr. Plummer and her team ensure their clinical sessions incorporate cultural frameworks as a method of self-awareness, processing, and healing. With over 15 years of clinical experience that spans in variations of clients to include children, single adults, couples, returning citizens, and members of the LGBTQ community, she is passionate about her work and purpose within the mental health field. As a consultant, Dr. Plummer ties in her experiences from the military, school/community leadership, university faculty, and parenting. The culmination of these aspects allows her to provide the best services to her clients, directly and indirectly, based on her breadth of information, knowledge and communication styles. As a researcher, Dr. Plummer explores the experiences of Black Women in clinical and supervision settings with the goal of creating a grounded theory that best suits the needs of Black Women in a range of professions. Additionally, Dr. Plummer and her team provide direct consultation to local and federal government agencies, while providing models and structures that allow them to support to their frontline mental health teams. ​ As a presenter, Dr. Plummer enjoys sharing her knowledge of clinical frameworks and counseling, clinical supervision, small business/private practice start-ups, and spiritual techniques and implications in therapeutic sessions. As such, Dr. Plummer has presented at 15+ international and national conferences to include the European Branch of the American Counseling Association (EB-ACA), the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi), and the Maryland Counseling Association (MCA). Additionally, Dr. Plummer has presented insightful mental health tips and commentary on local and national media outlets to include nationally syndicated podcasts and stations such as WTOP, ABC7, NBC4, and CNN. Dr. Plummer is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University with teaching specializations counseling in the clinical supervision, counseling adolescents, counseling in the LGBTQ community, entrepreneurship in private practice. Dr. Plummer is the recipient of the TAGG Magazine Enterprising Woman award and the 40 Under 40 honoree through the Center of Leadership and Excellence. As a small business minority (Black, Woman, US Army Veteran) owner, Dr. Plummer believes in a cumulative approach to mental health, educational attainment, business development, and balanced living….and it shows. She is passionate, supportive, driven, and willing to serve.
